This archive records the Mount Putuo section of the MORE LIFE journey in May 2023, during the route through Zhoushan, Zhejiang. Compared with the mountain roads, canyon views, and city nights from other stops, Mount Putuo carried a quieter and more coastal kind of atmosphere. The journey there already felt different: moving toward the islands, crossing water, feeling the sea air become heavier, and watching the landscape shift from inland movement to a slower rhythm shaped by temples, hills, stone paths, and the sound of waves.

Mount Putuo is one of China’s most important Buddhist mountains and is strongly connected with Guanyin culture. But the feeling of the place was not only religious in a formal sense. It was also spatial, natural, and emotional. Temples appeared between trees and slopes; incense smoke mixed with humid sea air; pilgrims and visitors moved slowly along paths; and the sound of bells, footsteps, wind, and distant water gave the island a calm rhythm. The mountain did not feel isolated from the sea. Instead, the sea made the temples feel more open, and the temples gave the island a deeper sense of stillness.

Walking through Putuoshan was less about reaching one single viewpoint and more about passing through layers of atmosphere. Some moments belonged to the temple courtyards, with wooden structures, stone steps, red walls, incense burners, and quiet figures standing in prayer. Other moments belonged to the coastline, where rocks, beaches, waves, and grey sky created a more open visual field. Between those places were small roads, shaded trees, hillside paths, and sudden views of the sea. The island moved between devotion, tourism, daily life, and nature without fully separating them.

For photography, Putuoshan was about restraint. It was not a place that needed dramatic framing. The details carried the mood: smoke drifting upward, wet stone after sea air, temple colors against green trees, people walking slowly, and the soft contrast between architecture and coastline. Some images were quiet and close; others were wider, showing the relationship between the island, the mountain, and the sea.

This page is not a travel guide. It is a visual memory of a coastal mountain, a Buddhist island, and a slower pause inside the MORE LIFE journey. It records the temples, paths, sea wind, incense, stone, and the feeling of briefly stepping into a place where landscape and belief share the same rhythm.
