This archive records the Chengdu section of the MORE LIFE journey in May 2023, centered around Kuanzhai Alley. After moving through mountains, rivers, caves, and waterfall landscapes, Chengdu felt like a return to the city, but not in a sharp or rushed way. The rhythm here was slower, warmer, and more lived-in. Kuanzhai Alley carried that feeling clearly: old courtyard walls, grey bricks, narrow walking paths, tea houses, restaurants, small storefronts, tourists, street sounds, and the relaxed pace that people often associate with Chengdu.

Kuanzhai Alley is not simply one street. It is a restored historical neighborhood made of Wide Alley, Narrow Alley, and Well Alley, each carrying a slightly different atmosphere. Some parts felt more traditional, with old-style façades, wooden doors, stone details, and the memory of courtyard life. Other parts were more commercial and contemporary, filled with cafés, creative shops, snacks, and people moving slowly between signs, lights, and doorways. That mixture made the place visually interesting. It was not a frozen historical scene, and it was not only a modern tourist block. It existed somewhere between memory and consumption, between old Chengdu and the city’s present-day public life.

Walking through Kuanzhai Alley was less about finding a single landmark and more about noticing small details. A person drinking tea by the door, steam rising from food stalls, red lanterns against grey walls, people stopping to take photos, handwritten signs, old rooflines above new storefronts, and quiet corners just a few steps away from the crowd. The street had a strong visual rhythm: narrow spaces opening into courtyards, shadows under eaves, warm lights inside shops, and the constant movement of people passing through the frame.

For photography, Chengdu was about atmosphere more than scale. Unlike the dramatic waterfalls or mountain views from other stops, Kuanzhai Alley asked for slower observation. The images were built from texture, street color, human movement, and the contrast between old surfaces and new urban energy. Some photos belonged to architecture, some to food, some to people, and some to the feeling of wandering without a strict destination.
